The University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross Athletic Campus – South Competition & Performance Center represents one of the largest and most transformative athletic facility projects in the university’s history. The $168 million, 280,000-square-foot development provides world-class training, competition, sports medicine, and performance spaces for nearly two-thirds of Michigan’s student-athletes, serving programs including track & field, cross country, lacrosse, soccer, rowing, wrestling, tennis, and gymnastics. 

Shaw/PPC Design was proud to partner with the project team to engineer, manufacture, and install the custom environmental graphics, architectural signage, donor recognition, branded interiors, and wayfinding elements throughout the facility. Working alongside the design and construction teams, we transformed creative concepts into production-ready solutions that reflected the tradition, excellence, and identity of Michigan Athletics while meeting the demanding performance requirements of a world-class athletic complex.

Leveraging our fully integrated in-house capabilities—including engineering, large-format digital printing, custom millwork, precision metal fabrication, specialty finishes, and professional installation—our team ensured every component was manufactured to the highest standards of quality and seamlessly integrated into the finished environment.

From dramatic entry features and donor recognition installations to branded team spaces, locker rooms, performance areas, and athlete support environments, every detail was designed to reinforce the Michigan brand while creating an inspiring experience for student-athletes, coaches, recruits, and visitors.

Today, the South Competition & Performance Center stands as one of the premier collegiate athletic facilities in North America, supporting elite athletic performance while serving as a powerful recruiting tool and a lasting symbol of the University’s commitment to excellence.
