In 2019, Food City partnered with Shaw/PPC Design to help redefine the in-store customer experience across its supermarket portfolio. The objective was to create a modern, welcoming environment that celebrated fresh food, reinforced the company’s brand identity, and delivered a consistent customer experience while allowing each store to reflect the character of its local community. The new design language has since become the standard for newly constructed and renovated Food City locations throughout the chain. 

Shaw/PPC Design served as a turnkey partner throughout the program, providing design development, engineering, manufacturing, and nationwide installation of the environmental graphics, architectural signage, branded décor, department identification, and custom feature elements that define the new Food City experience.

Working collaboratively with Food City’s leadership and design teams, we developed production-ready solutions that combined creativity with long-term durability and operational efficiency. Every graphic, sign, and architectural feature was engineered for consistency, ease of installation, and scalable deployment across hundreds of locations.

Leveraging our fully integrated in-house manufacturing capabilities—including large-format digital printing, custom millwork, precision metal fabrication, CNC machining, specialty finishes, and professional installation—we successfully produced and installed the new design package throughout more than 200 stores, creating a seamless and recognizable brand experience across the Food City network.

Today, the program continues to support Food City’s expansion into new markets. New locations, including the recently opened Athens, Alabama store, showcase the same modern design language with inviting fresh departments, destination foodservice areas, branded gathering spaces, and distinctive environmental graphics that enhance the overall customer experience.
